Amazonite is a potassium feldspar that takes its name from the Amazon River, although the most significant deposits are found in other regions of the world. Discovered in Brazil in the eighteenth century, this stone captivates with its blue-green colour, which varies from delicate shades to more intense nuances. Its formation requires particular geological conditions, where the presence of lead during crystallisation generates that characteristic colouration that distinguishes it among feldspathic minerals.
From a mineralogical perspective, amazonite presents a triclinic crystal structure and a hardness that makes it suitable for various types of working. Its optical properties reveal fluorescence under ultraviolet light, a particularity that makes it interesting also for mineralogy enthusiasts. The main commercial deposits are found in Colorado, Russia, Madagascar and Brazil, where geological conditions favour the formation of quality crystals.
